A Lovely Ruana

Wow!  What a beautiful late winter/early spring Ruana.  This is Evelyn's third Ruana and didn't intend for this to be a "Wake Forest" wrap but almost had to throw an elbow to prevent a Wake fan from taking this right off her back!  She chose her colors to be classic and practical and created a fabulous piece. Nice job, Evelyn!!

We're planning a Ruana Day next month so be on the lookout.  We'll have a great time putting together some spring and summer versions with you!

Zoe, the adorable knitter!

Young knitters simply make us smile and when you see one finishing a neck warmer for her grandmother, then trying it on for a photo, you just have to post about it!  Nice knitting, Zoe!!

Newest Knitting Group

Don't you love seeing newbie knitters?  Their excitement is contagious!  They gingerly touch the fibers, they pet and squeeze, and they oooohhh and ahhhhh over the yarns.  And with our experience and love of fiber, we know what they are in for and how much fun they'll have!  Aaahhhh, it warms my heart!!

I enjoyed meeting this group.  You guys are in very capable teaching hands.  Look forward to seeing you, and your projects, soon.
Happy Knitting!

Sweet Knitter from Sugar Loaf

Met a fabulous lady visiting from Sugar Loaf, NY.  Have never heard of this town but think it's the cutest sounding town ever.  And from the way she described it, it is a special place....a cute, artistic, beautiful town. (see link here).  I should remember her name but I'm terrible with new names. Dang, sorry about that!

So she's in for some Ozark yarn and has a cute hat pattern in mind, but we are currently out of stock in Ozark. Viola....an idea came to her after perusing the shop. A clever idea of creating her own funky-farm yarn!  See the jar of hand dyed curly locks and the hand-spun?

She promised to send us a photo!! Or maybe we should go visit Sugar Loaf.  ;)

Name that Yarn! And the winner is...

Twizzle Pop
Our winner is atwoodph!
I'm not sure who this is exactly....will you let us know your identity? :)

I'll have to say, we have some very creative customers! Shall we all quit our day jobs, dye yarn and have fun creating cute and clever names for the yarn??  I promised to announce a winner on the 1st but had such a hard time choosing a winner that I needed help.  I solicited input from Zach, Melissa, Steve and Margie.  They each randomly picked their favorite 3 and emailed them to me. I complied the list of finalists and chose the winning name:  Twizzle Pop!

Many picked yummy dessert names, others went with party themes like Confetti, Spring Fling & Mardi Gras (wheee....throw those beads!), still others went the way of the spring garden like Peony and Impatient for Impatiens (clever and me, too!).  Really nice names!!  Now I'm eager to have another cool yarn, hand dyed exclusively for Knit Picky because I have no doubt you'll come up with another fabulous name!!

So...our winner, atwoodph, receives a FREE skein of Knit Picky Twizzle Pop! And the runners up will each get 20% off their purchase of KPTP (cute acronym, too)!

Runner's Up:
psychedelic daisy
groovy juice
psychedelic twizzle

BTW...spell check does not like the word "Twizzle" but I do, don't you??!!  Please come in soon to pick up your yarn, these are one of a kind and once they are gone, they're gone. This was FUN....thanks for participating! Happy Weekend!

Name that Yarn (and win a skein)!

We're looking for fun, interesting, creative names for our new yarn from sKnitches. This self-striping yarn was hand-dyed in Knit Picky's logo colors!

Contest starts today, Jan 28, and goes through midnight on Jan 31. Winner will be announced on February 1!! Whoo...hooo....get those creative juices flowing.

Zauberball Cowl...just in time to watch the game!

I finished my easy, game-watching, knitting project using the Zauberball. In fact, I wore it to work yesterday and Steve snapped a picture way too early in the morning! The drape is nice and I love the color changes. I haven't blocked it yet nor have I woven the ends (bad girl!)
I'm writing up the pattern now. So how about a FREE pattern? A SuperBowl special...starting tomorrow (Saturday) until the SuperBowl....the FREE pattern is yours with a Zauberball purchase! You'll have fun knitting this relaxing project as you watch the big event. I'm calling it the Aaron Cowl. Do you have a favorite for the SuperBowl? Oooo....here's a Knit Picky Competition...post your pick for the game here, and from the winning entries, we'll spin the wheel for a FREE Zauberball....ready, set....Kickoff!!

New Knitty is up....and the word is Zauberball

I am intrigued with the Zauberball.  Many customers have purchased these colorful balls to use  decoratively in a coffee table bowl.  I agree....they are lovely.  And today, the new Knitty popped up in my email....whoo hoo....that's always fun, right? And what do you know.....a Zauberball pattern!

The retro design reminds me of the cozy afghans crocheted by my grandmothers. The classic neutral shade caught my eye but I imagine it would be equally impressive in a bold colorway, too, or maybe a soft spring palette.  I am currently creating my own infinity scarf pattern with a Zauberball and having fun watching the color changes.  My pattern is a much less intricate pattern, intended for easy knitting while watching the playoffs with my hubby.  So far, so good!

Either pattern in mind, you've got to admit this yarn is a keeper and it's a fun word to say.  Go ahead, say it....Zauberball!
